Interactions for a table-top projection system
@HP labs, individual work, 6 months
This project involved designing interface and defining interactions for a novel projection and capture system in context of a chosen use case. All the details of the project especially the device for which the interface was designed, cannot be shared online due to confidentiality reasons.

The device used a projector to project an interface on to any ordinary table top making it interactive. The overhead camera could read the inputs by the user. Multimodal inputs (gesture, sound, touch) could be used to interact with the interface. This project was done as a part of the diploma program with National Institute of Design. Also, the gesture vocabulary suggested for interacting with the system was selected for Defensive Publication in Research Disclosure by HP labs

The project began by doing a vast secondary research and then conducting an elaborate ethnographic study on middle class Indian families in Tier-II cities (Bhopal) with middle or high school going children.
A total of 8 families were interviewed...
The study was used to understand the context of use of the device at home and also to find use cases in educational and entertainment domain.
The various inputs...
Grouping of inputs to form opportunities...
Personas were then formed and use-cases were selected. One of the final scenario involved making virtual notes over books with the help of the system as shown.
A user scenario...
The interface was designed for accomodating the interactions for various scenarios and a gesture vocabulary was proposed for interacting. The gesture vocabulary was also tested with the users and improved upon.

This project was my first end-to-end project and I enjoyed working on it immensely.
